Don’t Be A Poo-luter! Find A Bathroom And Scoop Floofys’S Poop!
When visiting coastal Marin, whether by bus, car, or bike, it’s important to know ahead of time where to find a bathroom and how to dispose of solid waste (human and pets) before it negatively harms the environment or makes anyone sick!
FIND A BATHROOM
You might think it’s harmless for a quick stop on the side of the road when you just couldn’t hold it anymore…except that you're not the only one making that stop. Solid waste accumulates with real consequences, as human and animal waste contains thousands of bacterial organisms and viruses that can cause illnesses.
In addition to harming the environment, your pit stop in the bush is harming local farmers working to sustainably grow and harvest shellfish in Tomales Bay.
This also matters for your pooch!
Did you know the bacteria and nutrients in animal waste also pollutes our creeks, rivers, and estuaries and creates harmful public and wildlife health impacts.

WAG® Bags for Boat Camping
Disposing of human waste in the bay or onto park beaches is prohibited. On Tomales Bay, there are vault toilets at Marshall Beach and Tomales Beach. If camping on other beaches, you are required to pack out all human waste using a portable toilet or similar commercially designed waste disposal containers that can be emptied into an RV dump station or pit toilet, or a GO anywhere toilet kit® (formerly sold as WAG® Bags).
Pick up A WAG® Bag
WAG® Bags are sold at Bear Valley Visitor Center
$4.95 each (32 oz)
Individuals must discard used WAG® Bags at appropriate disposal locations.
NEVER pump boat holding tanks into the bay or outhouses. Lawson's Landing at Dillon Beach (707-878-2443) is the closest place to pump out boat tanks. (You cannot pump from the water but if you pull your boat out at this launch site, there is a dump station). A dump station is also available at Olema Campground (415-663-8106) along Highway 1 at Olema.
