Marin County Supervisor Visits My Class

On November 27, 2018, Marin County Supervisor Dennis Rodoni came to my class because my class was learning about local government jobs. One of my friends had the job of County Supervisor, so Dennis came to meet and be interviewed by her.

After the class interview, Dennis talked to the class and told them how kids can make change in our community. He told the class about me meeting with him about how bad plastic straws are for the environment. He said because we talked with him, he realized it’s not just about straws, it is about utensils, food containers, and other single-use plastics.

I talked to my class and told them about the Ban 2.0 List, and read the list of common plastic trash like food wrappers, bottle caps, beverage bottles, and much more. I also told them about how some bioplastics compost and others do not. Like, paper straws decompose but some compostable forks and knives do not, even if they spend two years in the ocean.

After, I gave Dennis the Ban List to take to his office so that he could look at it and remind himself about it. I hope that he will try to make a change to ban single-use plastics in Marin.
